The Laird Report Episode 1

One of the things which I am keen to do is to branch out from blogging, so after a bit of thought, I have done my first 6 minute Scottish politics episode. This is test material, I am going to create a proper intro and end credits eventually, but I wanted to do this today to see how my setup worked out. I hope you like it, in time, I will get better and have more understanding about the process, so bear with me.

  1. Superb Georgieboy.

Why not put the computer in front of the window and let the light shine on your face...

  2. Hi Crookie

This first one was test material, off the cuff stuff, so it was to see how the smartphone and the vlogging kit held up. I would like to make it more professional but to do that I would like to make a studio, but that can't happen until I get a new flat. I will get better, and as summer kicks in, I will be able to use a better lighting setup.

  3. I personally don't think there is a chance of Scots voting for independence now. Last week's performance where Blackford and Sturgeon said that the UK would be responsible for paying pensions in Scotland (Forbes didn't even know who would be responsible) and then a few days later both had to admit that Scotland would be responsible is embarrassing really.

In the 20-years since Holyrood, characters like Swinney have just ensured that it no longer works. It is no longer fit for purpose. I accept that a future referendum is likely, not next year though, but maybe in 10 or so years.

They say that the question will be: independence or devo max? Personally speaking, I would like to give folk the option of closing Holyrood.

The last AUOB march was attended by 390 poor souls and so maybe my option would be more popular than folk think.

  4. If Labour ever take power under their right wing, Starmer or whoever is in charge would go the route of Federalism or Fed lite. No referendum on that under the guise of updating devolution.

  5. Hi George, keep trying to leave a comment but it never shows up, so apologies if you get spammed all of a sudden...
Just wanted to say great to see you in a new guise and on the subject of video etc., have you ever considered podcasting instead? The reason I suggest it is I wanted to do some videos regarding a hobby of mine, but if it was to be an hour long static shot of me talking to the camera then a podcast would probably be better. There are less tech considerations and people can enjoy it while doing something else. Just a thought.

  6. Hi unknown, I am trying to find my feet on this video platform, I have to learn everything from production, to content to presentation. I want to start off giving my views then hopefully one day when I get my act together doing interviews with guests. I am not just talking politics people but others who may never have gotten their chance to speak to a wider audience on national or local matters. I am a bit of a newbie at the present moment but it is all about practice.

    1. Cheers for the reply. Used to work in documentary film making and TV yonks ago. Simplest bit of advice that goes a long way is this: invest in a decent microphone. Makes a BIG difference. The rest will follow.

  7. Hi Unknown,

Thank you for the tip regarding a decent microphone, I have heard that before by others, and I am keen to make my videos as professional as possible.
